Yvo Volman

Yvo Volman is deputy head of the 'access to information' unit, directorate general for information society and media in the European Commission. At present he co-ordinates the digital libraries initiative of the Commission which aims to make cultural and scientific information more accessible and usable in the digital environment.
Yvo studied at the Universities of Amsterdam and Strasbourg, specialising in European law. He holds a PhD in European law awarded by the European University Institute in Florence. In the periods before and after his research in Florence he worked as a policy advisor for the Ministry of Economic Affairs in the areas of industrial and technology policy. Since 1998 he has been working for the European Commission, where he has dealt with legislative and strategic issues as well as funding programmes related to the information market.
